I was tasked to create a new a material from a local business’ waste product. In response, I was inspired by ancient Japanese paper making techniques to develop a leather-like fabric from the citrus peel thrown out of local bars. Following testing, I sealed the textile with a homemade beeswax protective coating and manufactured watch straps. As part of this project I also developed a business model and a detailed costing structure for year one of trading. This project, amoungst others, exemplifies my commitment and desire to design sustainably by replacing outdated practices with environmentally friendly solutions and harnessing the potential in waste materials.
